The entrance to Port Davey and the surrounding waters boast some of the best fishing in the Australia. It is possible to catch a variety of fish including flounder, striped trumpeter, morwong, and rock cod, particularly around points with bull-kelp. Fresh mussels grow on some of the rocks and are easily collected at low tide. It is also possible to dive for abalone and rock lobsters but you will need to contact Fisheries Tasmania or Service Tasmania to obtain a recreational licence.

There are usually no eating fish in Bathurst Harbour due to the tannin stained waters and the seawater/freshwater mix.

There are restrictions to fishing in the area. These include having only one bait, beach seine, cast, dip and grab-all net used east of a line from Turnbull Head to Milner Head. A drop line or landing nets may be used, but lines with more than five hooks and mullet nets are not permitted. There are a number of restricted species, including the basking shark, elephant snails, great white shark, grey nurse shark, handfish, limpets, megamouth shark, pipehorse, pipefish, seahorse, seadragon and threefin blenny or whale shark.

It is also possible to trawl a line from the back or side of your kayak.
